Why Choose Tarpon Shores Dental For Scaling & Root Planing?

The Scaling & Root Planing Process

Scaling and root planing typically takes place over the course of two appointments. After Dr. Mesh examines your mouth and determines what type of gum disease treatment is the best option to treat your symptoms, our team will schedule an appointment for your procedure at your earliest convenience.

During your first scaling and root planing visit, Dr. Mesh will use a dental scaler to clean all plaque and tartar from the surface of your teeth and gumline. If pockets have formed between your teeth and gums, he will also clear these areas as well. This will remove harmful oral bacteria that are releasing toxins and causing your gums to become inflamed and tender.

The second appointment will consist of the root planing portion of the procedure. This is where Dr. Mesh will smooth out the roots of your cleaned teeth to allow your gums to reattach to them. That way, harmful oral bacteria won’t have access to these vulnerable areas of your teeth. Before sending you home, our team will provide you with some post-operative instructions to help minimize any discomfort.

In its early stages, gum disease is treatable and even reversible. However, when the issue is left to progress or you postpone periodontal therapy, we won’t be able to cure your oral health problem, just help relieve your discomfort and keep it from causing permanent damage. That’s why we place an emphasis on preventive dental care. With routine checkups and cleanings, we can diagnose and treat signs of gum disease as soon as possible, helping preserve your natural smile.
